The 30% federal tax credit no longer applies to homeowner-owned (cash or loan) solar installed after December 31, 2025. This calculator shows $0 for it. Hawaii's 35% state credit (up to $5,000) now has a $40 million yearly statewide cap under Act 24 (signed May 21, 2026); systems completed, or invested in, before that date are exempt from the cap. Lease and PPA owners may be able to claim a separate business credit, which does not automatically lower your payment: see our lease calculator.
HECO is rolling out Time-of-Use billing statewide. Evening peak rates will be 3x higher than daytime rates, making solar + battery storage even more valuable for avoiding peak charges.
