Power station size calculator

Tick the devices you want to power, adjust watts and hours to match your own gear, and see the capacity, output and solar panels you need.

1. Your devices

Starting values are mid-range typicals. Replace them with the numbers on your devices' labels.

DeviceWattsHours/day

2. Your plan

How long should it last, and how much sun do you get?

How the numbers are calculated

Energy per day (Wh) = Σ (device watts × hours per day) Capacity needed (Wh) = energy per day × days ÷ usable fraction Output needed (W) = sum of watts running at the same time × headroom Solar needed (W) = energy per day × 1.2 ÷ peak sun hours

The 1.2 factor on solar covers real-world losses, because panels rarely hold their rated output all day. Peak sun hours are not hours of daylight: they are the number of hours at full-strength sun equivalent, typically about 4–6 across much of the US, higher in the desert Southwest and lower in the Pacific Northwest. Learn more in the solar charging guide.

The output figure assumes every ticked device runs at once, which is the safe case. If you will only use some of them together, untick the others for a lower, more realistic number.
